Anglepoise is pleased to announce the 75th anniversary of its original Anglepoise lamp. This unique table lamp began its life as an engineering concept, was used as a lighting system and has become one of the most recognised design brands in the world.
Despite its long and illustrious history, Anglepoise has remained a family run business. The Managing Director of the company, Simon Terry, is the great, great grandson of Herbert Terry, who was part of the original design team. The original table lamp used springs to ensure perfect balance of the light source and, over the years, has been voted the 'favourite light of all time', was picked by designer Kenneth Grange as his favourite product and a three-times life-size model has been commissioned by the Roald Dahl Story Centre. Not bad for a modest little desk lamp.
Today, you can find Anglepoise lamps in almost any environment; photographic studios, dentists, garages and operating theatres all use them for practical purposes, but they can also be found in use in offices and homes throughout the world, as consumers are drawn to their style, as well as their precision and practicality.
To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the original Anglepoise, the company is relaunching a version of the lamp that set the world alight. In essence, it is a modern lamp, made in the original style of 1934.
